For my entire life, much like many others, much of who I am has been defined by my relationships with my friends and family, both past and present. Drawing from my past and homosocial relationships, my work brings to question the ways in which children play, asking in what ways the toys and games we play can elicit ulterior messages. Specifically, I am curious about the way children, especially young men, practice a sort of violence and brutality in their acts of play.

This current body of work can be thought of as two categories: the tools of violence and the victims of violence. The first, tools of violence, can be seen in the smaller works, for example Heat and Gum-man, both use the motif of a gun to allude to the violent nature of these works. The brutality of these weapons are ultimately subdued as the pink color shared between both of these works points to the ‘plasticality’ the playfulness and imaginative quality of these objects; despite bearing the likeness of a weapon of murder they are just capguns and pellet guns, toys; still though why are these the toys that young men seem so drawn towards?
